Hey,
I would love to give silkworm a run. I am the Fabrication Lab manager for Hong Kong University and we will be getting a makerbot soon.
I have a small project designing a lamp and fabricating it using makerbot, and would like to test your plugin for my project, I’ll send you pictures of the finished object once I am done with it.
Best;
Riyad
Sounds great! Let us know how it goes. At the moment Silkworm has been written with Rep Rap firmware in mind, and while there are only minor differences with GCode prepared for Makerbots, you may want to be aware of this when sending to print and watch for any suspicious behavior. If you have any specific queries feel free to email us.
Hello my name is Shawn I have been tinkering with 3d printers for about two years, started with a printrbot from my garage. I want to expand 3dprinting to the students at my local highschool
Hi
I’m a french student in architecture school in Grenoble. We are going to try 3D printing with our ABB robotic arm, and your plugin look great. But i can’t download it error 401 from dropbox.
Can you please fix it ?
Thanks
The link to Dropbox is not working. I downloaded the version on Food4Rhino instead, but this appears to be an old version. Please let me know how I can access the newer version.
I’m having an issue loading it. I’ve placed the .gha in components and unblocked.
Generates the following IO messages on opening the solid slicing definition.
Plugin version: 0.9.0076
Archive file written with older version: 0.9.0014
(7x) Input parameter chunk is missing. Archive is corrupt.
Hi Kyle, sorry I just noticed the comment, did you manage to make it work after that? We did the current realease of Silkworm a while back but it should still work…
Hi guys,
I have a few 3D printed space filling doodles to play with this semester. Thanks for sharing your work. Would be happy to give you some feedbacks.
Hi,
I am a student in Staedelschule in Frankfurt. Could you please help me with setting up silkworm and Ultimaker ? It seems that ultimaker doesnΒ΄t read file from grasshopper
Thank You
Hi Alessandro, I think it is fixed now. Please can you try again? Just write your email and it should send you a link to the download folder (i’ve just tested it).
Hi Sir, this is Kam. I’m very interesting at your project and wonder how can I install your Silkworm in Sli3r.
Hope could get your reply soon.
Thanks a lot!
I’m fairly new to grasshopper and was excited to find Silkworm because there are things I want to do with 3D printing (especially ceramic printing) that are not possible on any of the slicers I use (slic3r, simplify3d, cura). But I haven’t managed to get Silkworm to work yet, and I’m getting the sense that it might not be an active project anymore. I would contribute to its development myself if I had programming skills to offer, but alas, I do not.
Hello Colby, the current version should still work, have you tried to download it and some of the example files? It is hard to find the time to work on the project as it is a free plugin, any help through donation would be great π
Hello,
I am trying to download the plugin but came up with an error:
“This file is protected. You need to enter an email address to gain access. Please contact us if this is unexpected. Back to homepage.”
Tells me to contact you if this was unexpected. Any thoughts?
Hello Sam,
Thanks for your comment. Please can you try again? I’ve updated the download link.
Hope it will work, please feel free to donate if you think the tool is great π
Hi
Good job,guys. Silkworm looks awsome.
I am a designer from 3d printing company “zbot”, I would to try the plugin for detal machine.
But I got some problem, no email with download link received.
I am wondering if it is possible to use silkworm to generate G-code for a Shopbot–I have used Grasshopper to create an algorithm which guides a paint brush to paint shapes, periodically dipping it in a paint can (this 3d action is what I needed grasshopper for). I would like to generate the GCODE for the toolpath I have created and was wondering if Silkworm could do the job. I’ve downloaded it and plugged in all my geometry into the component which generates GCODE, but I am missing the “settings” component. If I am using a 3-axis CNC SHOPBOT, what do I put in for the settings? Thank you!
Hello Max – Silkworm generates E-Values based on the amount of plastic to extrude. Not sure how CNC define the rotation of the drill, speed..etc It might be quite different? The only similarity might be the x,y,z commands? We need your help there π Arthur
Hi Silkworm Team.
I’d like to give the tool a try but your download link that I received via email isn’t working. I get the following error:
“This file is protected. You need to enter an email address to gain access. Please contact us if this is unexpected.”
Could you please look into this?
Thanks
Hi i am an architecture student with an interest in digi-fab/ 3d printing.
I would like to use the pancakebot by generating g-code thru grasshopper, has anyone tried this with silkwork?
Hi Andrew – As long as you are using Gcode to send prints you can use silkworm, all you need is the right settings formats which you can get from Slicer.
Hi!
As with earlier comments I got the message “This file is protected. You need to enter an email address to gain access. Please contact us if this is unexpected. Back to homepage.”
Is it possible to fix the link?
Hello Otto – I’ve just updated and tested the download page, please type your email again and you should receive a link to the dropbox folder π If not please just email me. Arthur
I’ve just downloaded Silkworm, and I’m trying to get started with the spiral definition. I have downloaded Slic3r and exported my settings with a .ini file. When I try to load it into the Load Settings Component, nothing happens. There is no output from this component. I have tried loading in the ConfigForPrusaMendel.ini file, but it is also not recognized. Please direct me how to fix this problem. Thanks.

I am excited to see what this does on our delta machine!
Excited to see how you’ve been using Silkworm Lino!
Hello,
The link to download is not sending to my email. Could you please send it to sreed6@artic.edu.
Thank you!

Hi Seychelle, it is fixed now – Does it work? Sorry about that.
May use with Orion Delta printer
Hi Birk, exciting! did it work?
Hey, Is it possible to use it with a Makerbot replicator 2?
Cheers!
Hi Rodrigo, I don’t think the replicator accepts custom Gcode?

Hi Sir, this is Kam. I’m very interesting at your project and wonder how can I install your Silkworm in Sli3r.
Hope could get your reply soon.
Thanks a lot!
Hi Kam, Silkworm only works with Grasshopper. It outputs Gcode which can be sent to the printers directly through an SD card…
I am also having trouble with the link….excited to try silkworm out eventually though.
Aaah. Now its working. Thanks!
How to install Silkworm in Grasshopper please.
thank you
